Do you look in the mirror trying to find signs of aging? Do you shudder in fear about looking more aged? Let’s face it, we’re all growing older- but some people fight against aging by recognizing the enemy! Using anti-aging treatments can help also!
The process of aging is really the elasticity and the structure of the skin transforming as time passes. Frequently, it begins well before you even start to see the dreaded wrinkles- tell tale signs of getting older. The injury we get in our teenage and college age years has great influence on our skin eventually in life.
The skin is a diverse body organ. It senses pressure, uses pain to alert us from hot physical objects, tells us how cold it is, and it helps protect us from the environment by regulating our temperature, shields us from UV rays, and even allows to balance your electrolyte levels. Our skin does an awful lot for all of us- should not we treat it with a little consideration?
The two main determinants that affect your skin’s aging are Ultra violet exposure and also the natural physiological condition of getting older. Now, no matter what you do, you cannot halt time. We will all wrinkle at some point. The key is to age smartly. Anti wrinkle treatments can help a lot, but you need to be proactive about UV exposure as well.
Did you know close to 95% of early signs of aging are due to exposure to the sun?
There are actually 3 kinds of uv rays. These are organized by wavelength and are also categorized as being UVA, UVB, or UVC. UVC has the shortest length and the longest is UVA.
The UVA rays are actually pretty risk-free. This is the same wave that goes through ordinary glass. This short wave is what is usually found in tanning salons. However as with any thing, over exposure can still damage cells. In the end, close to 50% of skin cancer situations can be associated with tanning equipment. This is because, although it doesn’t actually cause sunburn, it penetrates deep into the skin and can be quite a catalyst for chemical reactions in the body. It affects the hydroxyl and oxygen radicals and will damage the collagen fibers of your skin. These collagen fibers are the understructure of the skin and help to avoid sagging.
OK, we are getting a little technical here so lets start working on UVB. This sucker will lessen vitamin A from your pores and skin fast. With regular exposure, DNA harm to the skin happens, modifying the cells. This mutation is commonly what you find in skin cancer. And even though UVB isn’t as quick to harm collagen as UVA- it still can have adverse health effects.
UVC doesn’t often penetrate really deep. It will burn the surface of the skin, but the outermost epidermis tends to protect you from it.
So, now you are aware of the enemy- what can you do to look after yourself?
Well, the best way is to avoid excessive sun exposure. Use sunscreen when ever you go outside the house. Do not think that if it is cloudy you’re good to go. There are still strong Ultra violet rays penetrating the cloud cover. So wear your sunscreen!
